Last week Tess, Lars, Kathi, Krista, Konstantinos and Ana attended the Drug Research Academy (DRA) PhD summer school in Helsingør. The topic this year was about the best ways to implement AI in a PhD project and in a future industry career.The programme included several talks from guest speakers and 3rd year PhD students, a poster session by 2nd year PhD students and various workshops. This year, Kathi was awarded the prize for the best oral presentation! Congratulations to Kathi for the fantastic presentation and well-deserved prize!

As our yearly tradition, we participated on the DHL Team Run! This year we had two teams representing both the Galvagnion Group and the University of Copenhagen, including Céline, Mathias, Diletta, Ana, Nicole, Simon, Kathi, Natascha and Georg. We also had Krista, Betina, Constantinos and Lars cheering in the crowd! Everyone enjoyed the evening at the park with food and drinks.

Last Friday, we brought ongoing discussions on Academic Freedom to the Pharma campus (Dept. of Drug Design and Pharmacology (ILF), University of Copenhagen and Department of Pharmacy, University of Copenhagen). Our manuscript “Shared and distinct lipid profiles in amygdala from sporadic and GBA-associated Parkinson’s Disease” is accepted for publication at npj Parkinson’s Disease (IF: 8.2). In this work, we found extensive metabolic remodelling of lipids in amygdala from people with sporadic PD and disease duration above 30 years and from people with PD carriers of a GBA risk mutation. Besides increases in the levels of the substrate of Glucocerebrosidase (GCase), the protein encoded by the gene GBA, i.e. glucosylceramide, and sphingolipids, we observed increased free cholesterol, diacylglyceride and most glycerophospholipids in these samples relative to healthy controls. In January 15th, Céline had the pleasure and honour to present our research on lipid disruptions associated with Parkinson’s Disease at the event ”En eftermiddag på Lundbeck” / “An afternoon at Lundbeck” to patients with Parkinson’s Disease and their family. Céline, Jesper and Patricia presented our latest results at the Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease conference in Copenhagen.
